I am delighted that Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Police have been awarded £546,693 as part of the Government’s £25 million Safer Streets Fund to tackle some of the most common neighbourhood crimes.
The scheme seeks to prevent crimes such as burglary, vehicle theft and robbery by improving security. Grants of up to £550,000 will be provided to Police and Crime Commissioners in England and Wales for projects focused on improving neighbourhood security measures including changes to the design of streets, increased street-lighting and the installation of CCTV. Other measures could include training community wardens, delivering local crime prevention advice to residents and establishing Neighbourhood Watch schemes.
The Government is focused on supporting measures that have proven to cut these crimes and it is part of its wider plan to tackle crime by recruiting 20,000 more police officers over the next three years.
