The government’s new fairer funding formula aims to address wide gaps in school funding between different geographical areas by using a new method to distribute cash. Campaigning for a fairer funding system to ensure that pupils in Cambridgeshire are afforded the same opportunities as those children in better-funded areas has been high on the agenda for Lucy Frazer since taking over as MP for South East Cambridgeshire in May 2015. In this period of consultation, Lucy met with Justine Greening and other East Anglian MPs at the beginning of the month to reinforce the case for the region and lodge any concerns. Last week she met with the Cambridgeshire Schools Forum and local heads to discuss their concerns before the consultation closes on March 22nd. Today she attended a meeting of the F40 group, a cross party group representing forty one of the lowest-funded education authorities in England, which campaigns for fairer funding. In the latest proposal Cambridgeshire is provisionally set to see an increase in funding of 1.8% which amounts to approximately £7 million overall. The funding is assessed on a school-by-school basis and the percentage of funding given will differ per school.
